Reiki began in Japan in the early 1900s with a man named Mikao Usui. He wanted to create a natural way to help people heal—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through his deep meditation sessions, he developed Reiki, a hands on or off energy technique that focuses on balance and relaxation. Over time, Reiki spread around the world and is now offered in many hospitals, cancer centers, and wellness programs as a way to support healing and well-being.
Going through cancer—whether it’s your own journey or someone you love—is incredibly hard thing to go through, and most don’t understand unless they have been through it too. There’s a lot of stress, pain, & fear. That’s where Reiki can help. Reiki is a gentle, calming practice that supports the body, mind, and heart. It doesn’t replace medical treatment but it works alongside it to bring peace and comfort.
During a Reiki session, you stay fully clothes and lie down or sit in a comfy chair. The practitioner places their hands light on or close to your body to help move energy. It doesn’t hurt, and most people say it feels warm, relaxing, or even like a soft wave of peace washing over them. Some people will fall asleep, others just feel relaxed—both are totally okay and normal! It’s your body’s way of kind of taking a deep breath.
For cancer patients, Reiki can easer pain, reduce side effects like nausea and fatigue and even lower stress. It helps the body rest & recharge, which is very important for healing. Survivors often use Reiki as part of their emotional recovery—it helps them feel grounded and more connected to themselves again after going through so much.
Reiki isn’t just for patients though. Caregivers, friends, and family often carry their own stress and sadness. Reiki gives them a chance to breathe, let go of some of that weight, and refill their emotional cup. Even just one session can help someone feel lighter and more balanced.
Cancer affects more than just the body— it touches every part of a person’s life. Reiki gives people a safe, quiet space to feel care for, supported, and at peace. And in times of fear or fatigue, that sense of peace can make a big difference.
